Overview

Bonnetje is a Dutch legal-tech platform designed to simplify and democratize access to legal assistance. Through an intuitive mobile app, Bonnetje helps users easily contest fines, claim compensation, and handle various legal issues at no upfront cost.

I led the end-to-end design solution of the mobile experience for simplifying claim filing flow, and played key role in enhancing visual presence of the brand across web and app.

My Impact

  • THE WHY & WHAT?

Every year, over €1B in compensation goes unclaimed, from everyday issues like traffic fines, parking tickets, flight delays, and train cancellations.

In theory, people can contest these issues. But In reality, most don’t even try. Why?

Complex paperwork!

Fear of legal fees!

Time-consuming

Unclear processes!

Legal process feels

Overwhelming!

The actual problem was the lack of clarity at the moment users needed it most.

Because...

  • THE HOW?

What i did to address that problem?

As a Product Designer, I designed the end-to-end mobile app experience that helps users contest fines with clarity and more confidence, often within a minute through simplified flow.

Due to tight deadline, I started with defining scope to prioritize the clarity...

My Approach

lean research through content analysis and quick user interviews to ground my assumption.

Early sketching to simplify flows before visual design.

Asked right questions...

Where do users hesitate or drop off?

What information is essential vs. optional?

How do we make legal steps feel safe and guided?

Designing Bonnetje (Key design decisions)

These insights shaped the key design decisions that made the bonnetje successful. Lets see..

1. Submitting Case Step-by-step

Instead of overwhelming users with long forms, complex legal processes were broken into small, focused steps at a time which helped users move forward with confidence, and one action at a time.

2. Progress visibility

Primary research said that Legal processes feel stressful when they’re invisible. Case tracking and status updates ensured users always knew what was happening behind the scenes.

3. Feedback on objection documents

Legal experts said in early interviews that sometime, they (attorney) needs feedback on objection documents from the client(users). here in-app feedback experience let the user add any feedback on document or resolve it without juggling between other apps.

Keeping the file organized (Small thing but big impact)

As the product evolved, the Figma file grew complex and keeping it well-organized allowed faster handoff and easier reviews across the team.

And all these key decisions made this possible

My Impact

What I learnt?

This project taught me how scoping early in the process can make it easier to move fast, ask better questions, and avoid unnecessary complexity. It made me realize that good product design isn’t about doing more, it’s about focusing on the right problem at the right time, for both users and teams.
